Our Wonderful YCLs,

Wow, it was such a great meeting on Friday night! Thanks to all who came, we had some great discussions about camp! I'll start with the "homework" reminders for everyone, and below that the notes from the meeting. If you were unable to attend, it is imperative that you read the whole email! (YW Leaders, you are being cc'd on this just to keep you in the loop. You do not need to do anything from this email. I will send another to the leaders soon about registration)

Homework :

  1. Attendance We added this after the February meeting. This is a requirement for all YCLs every month. If you are unable to attend the meetings, you still get credit for "attending" by letting me know what you are doing to help with our planning! Anyone who is not participating in the planning, will not be allowed to come to camp as a YCL (though they will still be welcome to come as a camper!)
  2. Camp Kickoff Google Form - we want your ideas of what kickoff will look like! Think outside the box, get ideas from your friends in your ward, we will build on those ideas as we plan kickoff at our next meeting
  3. Committee Responsibilities

  1. T-shirt plan (by May 1) (you can still submit ideas through Conference Weekend)

  2. Skills Classes list of classes (by April 3)

  3. Other committees - what do you need to do between now and the next meeting to keep the planning moving along? Does your group have a group text? Do you have questions for us leaders? What needs to happen to make your ideas a reality?

  4. General Camp Ideas Google Form (optional)
  5. Craft Ideas Google Form
  6. Pray about something you want help with at Girls Camp and look for answers during General Conference
  7. Join the Remind to get text reminders @863af9
  8. We had such a good turnout at our Friday night meeting, that we are considering changing some of our upcoming meetings to Fridays. Before doing that, we wanted to take a poll of what works best for you! Please fill out this google form (you know I love my google forms!) to let me know what dates work best for you!
Upcoming Meetings:
Keep in mind the day of the week may change on some of these based on the poll above... we will let you know of changes ASAP
  • April 23 @ 9 am (Stake Center)
  • May 21 @ 9 am & 10:30 am Camp Kickoff (Stake Center)
  • June 11 @ 9 am (Stake Center)
  • We will also have something the week before camp - date and time TBD
  • June 27-July 1 - Camp! (YCLs come up on the 27th in the afternoon, other girls will come up on the 28th in the morning)

Leadership Training:
Inspire - Sister Padilla talked about the importance of inspiring those around you. Much of what you do as YCLs is the same as ministering. In the camp guide it says "Ministering requires love, sincere friendship, and a desire to strengthen others." As you get to know your girls, pray for them and their needs. Find ways to inspire them to be their best selves. You will make a difference to these girls, and your actions will inspire them! “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito”

-Dalai Lama

Teach - As a YCL, you are also a teacher. A good teacher constantly reflects on how a lesson went, and works to improve what they do. We will have nightly meetings at camp where we will reflect on our successes each day, and also the ways we can improve. Prior to camp, think about teachers you have loved. What were their good qualities that made you love them? How can you emulate some of those qualities? Teaching the Saviors Way says "The goal of every gospel teacher—every parent, every formally called teacher, every home teacher and visiting teacher, and every follower of Christ—is to teach the pure doctrine of the gospel, by the Spirit, in order to help God’s children build their faith in the Savior and become more like Him." Think of how other teachers you know have emulated the Savior.

Our Visit to Prince William:

We showed images of our visit to Prince William, and talked about the spaces we have available to us to use for camp. Take a look at the Google Slides to see them!

Report Back on Google Forms:

I showed the responses to our google forms from February. We have lots of ideas of skills classes for our committee to use in their planning. Several of you filled out the attendance from February - this month it is required!!

We looked at the ideas for our High Adventure activity. We narrowed it down to three ideas: Paintballing, White Water Rafting, Ziplining. I will research those three and look at costs and capacity (how many people the places can accommodate) and we will choose one or two options. If we can work out the logistics, we will allow girls to choose out of 2 choices on their registration. I will let you know once I've found out more information!

Committee Time:

Committees met and discussed more of their plans for camp. We kept notes on this google document. If you group meets outside of our YCL meetings, please still use this document to keep your notes! Keeping our notes consolidated helps us in keeping each other informed of our plans.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please reach out to me! You guys are doing an amazing job of planning camp, and I am loving seeing the parts slowly come together!

Love,
Sister Presley 240-421-5774
