Dearest YCLs,

Thank you to all who came to our meeting yesterday! The top of this message is all of the action items from the meeting. The notes from our discussion are all below.

Action Items:
  1. Research high adventure ideas near camp and submit at least one idea to the google form.
  2. Submit at least one idea for skills classes (things you might want to learn or teach, and things the girls in your wards might want to learn)
  3. Attendance form - this is something new! This will help us keep track of everyone's participation. Even if you weren't there, fill this out! You can get "attendance" for participating in other ways!
  4. Committee actions - everyone should have at least one action item for their committee! For this first meeting, your action can be to get each other's information and come up with a plan of how you will communicate (If your group did not put their notes on the Google Doc, please do that!)
  5. If you have T-shirt design ideas, you can upload a sketch (doesn't have to be a polished image). Our theme is "Simply Beautiful, Beautifully Simple"
  6. If you haven't joined the Remind yet, here is the code:  @863af9
Upcoming meetings:
  • March 25 @ 7 pm (this is a change from what we discussed! There is a Stake activity on Saturday morning, so we switched to the night before) (MV building)

Meeting Notes (Google Slides):

We began the meeting with a spiritual thought from Sister Padilla. She shared a quote from Elder Neil L. Andersen where he taught that “revelation is scattered among us”. Sister Padilla talked about how each of us has a different "piece" that we bring, and everyone's voice is important to create the beautiful whole of our camp.

One of the nice parts about having fewer YCLsj (there are only 16 of you) is that each of you really will shape different parts of camp!

At each meeting we will do some leadership training, as well as have some planning time. For this meeting we focused on "Prepare" and "Communicate".

Prepare: We talked about all of the preparing we do by being at the meetings, doing our assignments, shopping for supplies, planning schedules. We also talked about the importance of individual preparedness. The YW Camp Guide says "As a leader, you can receive inspiration as you pray, study the scriptures, and fast while keeping the young women in mind. Consider attending the temple, where possible. Your spiritual preparation will guide your efforts as you plan and prepare for camp." Your individual efforts to pray for your girls, read your scriptures, go to seminary will enable you to receive inspiration as we plan!

Communicate: We talked about being active participants in the communication involved with planning. Communications often go wrong, but here are some tips to help keep that from happening:
  • Show interest in the communications coming to you. Put yourself in the senders position
  • If the message is confusing / vague, ask clarifying questions. No question is wrong
  • Be available. Check your messages frequently!
  • Always return and report (we are trying to make this easy with all of the google forms!
After our leadership training, we told everyone what committee they are in. Everyone who responded with their choices got their first pick. If you did not respond, we did our best to prayerfully choose where you will be serving.

Please reach out to your committee members this month before our next meeting. You need to decide what the best way for your group to communicate will be. If you don't know how to reach each other, reach out to me and I can help connect you.

Because of our small numbers, we decided to get rid of the committee for chores and camp kickoff. We will plan those things all together, so if you have thoughts or ideas for either of those things, you will be able to share those with us!

Committees then met with each other for the last 20 minutes of our meeting and began to brainstorm ideas. We are asking that all committees take notes on this Google Doc so that our notes are easily accessible to everyone. We will have time to meet with committees at each meeting, but if you meet outside of our meeting times, make sure to take notes for that as well! You can just add a row for each time that you meet.

Sister Padilla and I went to visit the campsite after our meeting, and I was going to add something about that here, but this message is already super long... so... just know that it is beautiful! The cabins are nicer than any others we have stayed in, and the campsite itself is wooded and lovely. We will share pictures and information at our next meeting.

As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Camp planning goes best if we talk and communicate as much as possible! FYI, my phone is being weird, so if I don't respond to a text, try emailing me or reaching out via Remind.

So far, you guys have been great at sharing ideas and planning! Keep it up!

Love,
Sister Presley
